Bachelor in Industrial Engineering and Management

Objectives

The aim of the course is to educate professionals who combine mastery of management techniques with a solid engineering background. The course involves training in Mathematics and Physics, to which is added an integrated knowledge of technological issues in the areas of Design and Manufacture, Fluids and Energy and Industrial Automation. Students acquire comprehensive knowledge of business and the functioning of the economy. Students are encouraged to develop various social skills, such as communication skills, social responsibility and group work. Graduates are able to support decision-making in organisations, and are expected to become active agents of change and innovation.

Specific learning objectives that students are encouraged to develop include:

  • To acquire and be able to use with the necessary proficiency knowledge of basic sciences, such as Mathematics and Physics, and of Engineering Sciences and Technologies, with particular emphasis on the areas of design and manufacturing, fluids and energy and industrial automation;
  • To acquire a comprehensive knowledge in the area of quantitative methods and information systems, especially seen as decision support tools;
  • To acquire an integrated knowledge of business management, with emphasis on operations management;
  • To develop personal attitudes conducive to a successful professional activity and a relevant intervention in society, including an attitude of change agent, creativity, capa- city of effective communication and group work;
  • To develop an attitude of responsible citizenship, with social and environmental concerns in line with sustainable development.

Employment Prospects

The degree aims to build knowledge that may be followed up in subsequent training in Industrial Engineering and Management, with a view to enhancing professional careers in industry or services.

Graduates may perform management functions in various functional areas of companies, including operations management, information systems and financial analysis. Those who demonstrate an aptitude for entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership may start their own businesses.
