From the academic year 2021/2022 onward, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto extended its offer of 2nd cycle studies with nine additional masters, which result from the adaptation of integrated masters pursuant to Decree-Law No. 65/2018, of 16th August.
For information purposes only, we distinguish the 2nd cycle studies between Stand-alone Masters and Continuity Masters (the ones resulting from the above-mentioned adaptation of Integrated Masters), since there are some differences in terms of applicants, ranking criteria and documents required.
Therefore, depending on the master(s) (2nd cycle studies) you wish to apply for, you should carefully read the information below regarding Stand-alone Masters and/or Continuity Masters.Applicants for Stand-alone Masters
The following may apply for a cycle of studies leading to a Master's degree:
a) Holders of a Bachelor's degree (Licenciatura) or legal equivalent;
b) Holders of a foreign higher education degree awarded after a first cycle of studies structured in accordance with the Bologna Process by a State that implemented this process;
c) Holders of a foreign higher education degree that is recognized as meeting the objectives of a Bachelor's degree by the statutory competent scientific body.
d) Those with an academic, scientific or professional curriculum recognized as attesting to their ability to carry out the cycle of studies by the statutory competent scientific body.
Please see information for each cycle of studies.
Applicants for Continuity Masters
Applicants who comply with the prior training requirements set out for each Continuity Master shall be admitted to the competition (see information for each cycle of studies).
The following may apply for a Continuity Master at FEUP:
- Applicants with the first 3 full years of a cycle of studies carried out in a country not adhering to the Bologna Process;
- Applicants whose conclusion of a Bachelor's degree is pending the bureaucratic closure of an international mobility process, whatever their original Higher Education Institution (IES - Instituição de Ensino Superior);
- "Final-year students" who have reasonable expectations of obtaining the Bachelor's degree by the end of the enrolment deadline of their application phase, regardless of their IES of origin. These applicants lose their right to their place within the competition in question, if they are not able to register within the deadline; (See below "Notes for Continuing Masters")
- Applicants who, not being covered by paragraphs a), b) or c), explicitly wish to request FEUP's statutorily competent scientific body to certify their capacity to carry out the Cycle of Studies to which they apply. These applicants must previously submit the said request at the Academic Services of FEUP using this template.

Ranking Criteria for Stand-alone Masters
The ranking criteria are defined per cycle of studies (see information for each cycle of studies).
Some cycles of studies or application phases may have minimum requirements for admission, such as a ranking grade equal to, or higher than, a specific value out of 200.
Ranking grade: the result obtained by using the calculation formula provided for in the ranking criteria.
Ranking Criteria for Continuity Masters
The ranking criteria are defined per cycle of studies (see information for each cycle of studies).
Some Continuity Masters may have a minimum Final Grade* for applicants to be admitted to the cycle of studies.
*Final Grade (CF - Classificação Final): weighted average of the ranking components.
Note: For the cycles of studies that have an interview as ranking criteria, the scheduling of the interview will be done by e-mail sent to the e-mail address indicated in the application.
Notes for Stand-alone Masters:
1 – In the 1st and 2nd phase, only applicants who provide official documents attesting that they have the necessary qualifications to apply will be admitted.

If applicants do not have a graduation certificate yet, they must present a declaration of honour stating that they have completed the necessary qualifications to apply. In this case, candidates must mandatorily submit an official certificate of curricular units. Enrolment will be subject to the presentation of the official documents attesting their graduation.
3 - In addition to these, you may be required to present other documents depending on the cycle of studies you are applying for (information available in the application process).
