Curricular Internships

Master Programme:

• All students enrolled in the Dissertation/ (Work) Project/ Internship class of the 2nd year of Master programme.

Duration:

• The internship must have a minimum duration of 450 hours and be concluded by the end of the academic period of the second semester of the academic year the Curricular Internship concerns.

Formalisation of the Internship Protocol:

• After being selected for an internship, it is the student's responsibility to make the appropriate request to formalise the curricular internship protocol (see instructions in the tab below). I have been selected for a curricular internship that was advertised in the Career Portal. What now?

1. Get information from the Programme Director about the procedure for choosing a FEP Supervisor and proceed accordingly.
2. After enrolling in the course unit 'Dissertation/Project/Internship', you must complete the 'Curricular Internship Formalization Form' with accurate information previously agreed upon and provided by the Host Entity. Submit a request via your individual student record in SIGARRA (type of request: Submission to the Director), to request the formalization of the Curricular Internship, attaching a completed copy of the 'Curricular Internship Formalization Form'. [When the course unit is allocated to the 2nd semester of the curriculum, this step should only take place from December 2nd of the corresponding academic year and up to 30 days before the internship start date.]
3. You will receive the 'Internship Protocol' and the 'Confidentiality Agreement' already filled out in your institutional email. Then, you must digitally sign the documents and send them to master.internship@fep.up.pt (use your institutional email). FEP will then collect the internal signatures (Programme Director, Supervisor, and FEP Director) and send the documents to the Host Entity for signature collection.
4. To complete the internship process, the supervisor from the host entity must fill out the student evaluation survey and send the signed and stamped or digitally signed (certified digital signature) internship completion declaration to master.internship@fep.up.pt with CC to the student.

I have been selected for a curricular internship that I proactively searched for. What now?

1. Download the 'Form for Submitting a Self-Proposed Curricular Internship' and complete it together with the company.
2. You must send the form via institutional email to the Programme Director with CC to master.internship@fep.up.pt to request validation of your self-proposed internship.
3. Once your proposal is validated, get information from the Programme Director about the procedure for choosing a FEP Supervisor and proceed accordingly.
4. After enrolling in the course unit 'Dissertation/Project/Internship', you must complete the 'Curricular Internship Formalization Form' with accurate information previously agreed upon and provided by the Host Entity. Procedural aspects for Companies/Institutions



• FEP Career and Development Service has established a period for submitting offers of Curricular Internships, which runs from 17 February to 10 March 2025.


• Internship offers must be submitted online using the appropriate form. Companies/institutions must also be registered on the FEP Career Portal. If you have any questions about the submission form, please contact the FEP Career and Development Service: sdc@fep.up.pt.


• Internship offers are analyzed and validated by the Master's Directors and then made available to students for their application via FEP Career Portal.


• The Proponent Institutions must proceed with the selection of the candidate(s) by 30 May 2025.


• The selected student is responsible for submitting the Curricular Internship Formalisation requirement, accordingly to the document in force and with the information previously agreed with the Proponent Institution.


• The Proponent Institution will receive from FEP the ‘Internship Protocol’ and ‘Confidentiality Agreement’ previously filled in and signed by FEP and the Student, for the collection of the signatures of the Proponent Institution.


• At the end of the internship, the Provider must submit the Internship Evaluation Report and the duly signed and stamped Internship End Declaration.


• This information does not exempt from consulting FEP Internship Regulations, in force.



FAQ’s

1. I wasn't selected for any curricular internship offered on the FEP Career Portal. Can I arrange one myself?

   Yes, you can submit a self-proposal together with the company, provided it is validated by the Programme Director.

2. How should I choose the Internship Supervisor?

   You should get information from the Programme Director about the procedure for choosing a FEP Supervisor and proceed accordingly. The Supervisor may be external to FEP, in which case a FEP Co-supervisor must be identified.

3. When can I start my internship?

   The internship can only start after enrollment in the Dissertation/Project/Internship course unit and may begin in the 1st or 2nd semester of the 2nd year, according to the course structure for each master’s program.

4. Is the curricular internship paid?

   If there is an Internship Grant, it is the responsibility of the Host Entity. This information may or may not be disclosed in the internship offer and is usually communicated during the interview. However, under social responsibility principles, it is expected that the Host Entity provides a grant that at least covers food, transportation, and other internship-related expenses.

Other information

• The student must have a Company Supervisor and a Professor Supervisor from FEP;


• At the end of the internship, the student must hand in a Statement of End of Internship to the Academic Services, which the Company/Host will give to him/her, duly signed and stamped by the latter (available to the company after submitting the student's evaluation);


• The internship ends with the completion of an internship report and is covered by school insurance;
