The European Documentation Center (EDC) of the University of Porto, whose status was granted by the European Commission in 1981, is part of a larger network of bodies created by the European Union in Universities and other Higher Education Institutions and distributed by Member States and Third Countries, to improve citizens’ access to Community information.
The status of the CDE was conferred by the EU Commission through the signing of a Convention between the University of Porto and that Institution.
This EDC has been functionally integrated in the Documentation Services of the Law Faculty of the UP since November 1995.
It receives, free of charge, the official documentation issued by the different Community Institutions and has preferential access to its databases.
The functions of the EDC are: to promote and consolidate studies and research in the Community, providing the necessary sources of information; to make known to all citizens the policies of the European Union, in synergy with other European information organizations; and make accessible all documents produced by the European Union.
