Jorge Leite Areias Ribeiro de Faria (Póvoa de Lanhoso, 1931 - Porto, 2008) graduated in Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra in 1953, where he obtained doctoral degrees in Legal and Criminal Sciences in 1978, and approved with distinction and praise. He was a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto since 1960, assuming for many years the position of Professor-Coordinator of the law group. Between 1965 and 1969 he was a fellow of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Germany, Freiburg-in-Breigau and the Max-Planck Institut für Strafrecht. He was a member of the Scientific Councils of the Law Course of the Portuguese Catholic University in Porto and the University of Minho Law School. In 1995 he was part of the Installing Commission of the Faculty of Law of UP and, later, of his Scientific Council. In 2005, the University of Porto awarded Professor Ribeiro de Faria the title of Professor Emeritus of the University in recognition of the very relevant services provided to this institution. He was the first Librarian Professor of FDUP, a position he held until his death. |
