i3S is a multidisciplinary research unit funded by FCT since Jan 2015 clustering researchers that share common goals in Health Sciences, with expertise in basic, translational, and clinical research, in a model that covers the full lifecycle of research "from bench to bedside". Research is organized in 3 Programs: Cancer (CP); Host Interaction and Response (HIRP); Neurobiology and Neurologic Disorders (NNDP). They combine the competences of research groups to address major biomedical challenges in modern society: cancer, neurodegeneration, infection and tissue repair/regeneration. Our approach is highly integrative and transdisciplinary and spans i) fundamental scientific questions on the molecular and cellular basis of living systems, ii) mechanisms underlying disease, and iii) the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. |
