Doctoral Program in Mathematics and Applications

InformationThe course/SC is accredited by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES).


The Doctoral Programme in Mathematics and Applications is designed to provide training in the Applications of Mathematics, it is oriented both to the academic career and to the labour market, providing students with various skills: the ability to design and develop original research, independently or in partnership, to have a critical view of knowledge and reality, to share knowledge with their peers or society in general.

Its objective is for students to acquire specific skills in the field of mathematics: development of techniques, languages and theoretical and/or computational tools suitable for problem solving, deepening of general techniques and autonomous approach to mathematical problems; innovative modelling and resolution of scientific phenomena, within the scope of Mathematics and its applications.

The cross-border cooperation, favoured by cultural affinity, brings together scientific skills from several prestigious institutions and research centres in Galicia-Northern Portugal creating a strong critical mass of professors and researchers, with internationally recognized merit in the various areas of Mathematics and its applications.

Admission requirements

Selection and Ranking Criteria

To be admitted, applicants must obtain a score higher than 70 points in total in the following criteria:

  • Academic Curriculum: 40-100
  • Research experience (publication of articles, monographs, participation in research groups, letters of recommendation within the scope of the research developed, activities developed in initiation to research, etc.): 0-15
  • Professional curriculum (work experience, proficiency in foreign languages, letters of recommendation regarding their professional activity, etc.): 0-10
  • Interview: 0-5.
