Sociology in its beginnins and nowadays

Cultural Sociology as a field able to understand the societie's dinamycs in its identity, meaning and power

Analysing cultural practices, objects and speaches

Situating the aesthetic experience in social reality,
 capturing the resonance of the artistic field in the wider social context

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the semester,mthe student should be able to:

-use theoretical perspectives and concepts of sociology to analyze practices, objects and discourses in the cultural field;

-put cultural production, distribution and consumption in perspective with the development of societies;

-recognize and describe, from a sociological point of view, the place of culture, art and artists in society

Sociology and scientific perspective. Science, Common Sense and the false transparency of the social; Epistemological obstacles. The unity of the social and the plurality of the social sciences. Social Problem and Sociological Problem. Total Social Phenomenon.

Culture concepts.

The poor operability of the notions of cultivated culture, mass culture and popular culture. Overcoming ethnocentrism.

Contributions of sociology to the analysis of cultural policies. Social spaces of culture and modes of relationship with cultural goods.
