Summary: The R2U Technologies has the global vision to conciliate a series of initiatives and projects for the development, industrialization, innovation, qualification, and commercialization of innovative solutions that will push the Portuguese Economy for the modular construction paradigm. Considering that the construction activity, in its entire building process, continues to rely mostly on manual work on-site, it is essential to identify new processes that can transfer as many activities and human resources as possible to controlled and more efficient environments and this way, achieve greater levels of efficiency and profitability. Moreover, the rationalisation of resources, through their maximum use and elimination of waste, is a key factor in safeguarding environmental sustainability. The developments and results of all these initiatives will promote an increase in the productive potential of the construction sector in Portugal by becoming a worldwide supplier of modular construction buildings and related constructive elements and systems and will guarantee in the medium term a higher growth as a specialization profile based on R&D and innovation.
As presented in section 1.1, the R2U Technologies is structured in seven work packages, each one focused on a different segment of the value chain of the construction sector, starting from the design stage, up to the building operation and maintenance during its lifecycle. It is supported on the qualification of the Portuguese construction workforce, in all levels of training and in all disciplines needed to accomplish the vision of Modular Construction. These work packages were established after a rigorous diagnosis of the sector's present and future needs, to create a synergic network between relevant partners and players through a strengthened business structure that guarantees a series of developments and products, minimising dependence on the external markets.
