Abstract:

"Childhood – a formative stage of life with its own distinct characteristics, as we know it today –, is a relatively recent concept that, during the 20th century, assumed a central role in modern society.
On the other hand, architecture, a useful art and a reflection of those who conceive it, underwent during that same century a period of profound change, marked by intense debate, as well as by an extensive theoretical and practical production.
The centrality of childhood, particularly evident in public life, leads to the question of how this narrative translated within domestic space during the golden age of large-scale housing complexes and mass-reproduction prototypes, thus driving the focus of this research onto the design of multifamily housing buildings in search of the signs of this transformation."
