Universities in the Knowledge Economy (UNIKE) Summer School

A UNIKE - Universities in the Knowledge Economy organiza uma Summer School que decorre entre 29 de junho e 3 de julho de 2015 na Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação da Universidade do Porto (FPCEUP).

About

A five day doctoral training course with a coherent programme of lectures, discussions and meetings with students on their individual projects. This is the sixth event in the doctoral training package of the EU Marie Curie programme UNIKE (Universities in the Knowledge Economy). This summer school will be a mixture of formal presentations, discussions, exercises and group work. The working language of the UNIKE summer school is English. Participants who successfully complete the UNIKE summer school will be awarded 4 ECTS.

Main themes

The UNIKE summer school will focus on three main themes: The main topic of the summer school is the scientific training on "Figures in the higher education landscape", complemented with knowledge on aspects of Doctoral Education: "Governance narratives reshaping doctoral education". In the Complementary Training Package the focus will be on writing abstracts for scientific papers. This includes a lecture on the principles of abstract writing and the collective discussion of abstracts previously submitted by UNIKE fellows.

Confirmed speakers include Amélia Veiga (CIPES), António M. Magalhães (University of Porto), Corina Balaban (University of Aarhus), Davydd J. Greenwood (Cornell University), Gritt Nielsen (University of Aarhus), Joëlle Fanghanel (University of West London), Maarten Simons (KU Leuven), Rebecca Boden (University of Roehampton), Teresa Carvalho (University of Aveiro), Tiago Neves (University of Porto), and Ulrich Teichler (University of Kassel).

Cost

There is no fee for UNIKE fellows. The contribution for non-UNIKE fellows is ¤120 (to cover the costs of lunch and refreshments). Evening meals will be either on-campus or at local restaurants and will cost around ¤15 each.

Accommodation

Rooms are available on university residences at a cost between ¤17.50 and ¤26 per person per night. Should you wish to book a room, please contact Luísa Santos (lsantos@fpce.up.pt).

How to apply

Applications are invited from PhD students and early career researchers working on topics related to higher education and the global knowledge economy. Applicants are required to send their CV and cover letter demonstrating the relevance of their research to the broader context of the UNIKE project to Jana Bacevic (jaba@dpu.dk) and Kathrin Gramsch (kagra@dpu.dk) before 17 April 2015. Doctoral students should demonstrate in their application that their research is closely connected to the issues covered by the UNIKE project. Preference will be given to applicants who intend to participate in the future UNIKE workshop and event (see www.unike.au.dk for description). We have a maximum of ten places available through this route. Applicants will be informed about the decision by 24 April 2015. Registration: Accepted applicants will be asked to register online. The deadline for registration is May 10th, 2015.
