Humberto Pinto de Lima

Born in the parish of Santa Maria de Belém, Lisboa, Humberto Pinto de Lima graduated in History and Geographical Sciences at the First Faculty of Arts of Porto, on 1 November 1924, with the final mark of 19 out of 20.

Although his name was suggested by Professor Damião Peres for the position of Interim Assistant Professor of the 4^th Group (History) at the institution where he graduated, he came close to being admitted to the 2^nd Group (Romance Philology) when Professor José Freitas de Bragança left. However, in 1925 he was hired as Assistant Professor of the 5^th Group (Geographical Sciences), and was responsible for the chairs of Political and Economic Geography, General Anthropology and Archaeology. Approximately one year after the official announcement of the extinction of the Faculty of Arts of Porto, in 1928, he abandoned the university teaching career in favour of a diplomatic career, and was Consul-General in Tangier (1960).

He participated in the Portuguese Society of Anthropology and Ethnology, where he published "A cerâmica predinástica" [Pre-Dynasty Ceramics]. He collaborated in the book "História da Expansão Portuguesa no Mundo" [The History of Portuguese Expansion in the World].
