Manuel Joaquim Pereira da Silva was born in 1801.
He may have been a second-lieutenant in the Artillery Regiment of Faro in 1833, during the liberal wars.
In 1836, he was appointed teacher of the 11th chair – Commerce, at the Royal Academy of Maritime and Trade Affairs of the City of Porto, by decree of 19 October and royal writ of 30 November. He was re-appointed at the Polytechnic Academy of Porto by decree of 18 June and royal writ of 28 July 1838 and taught this Subject until 1863.
Among other works, he published a new edition of "Dicionário d'algibeira, philosophico, político, etc.", (which he published in Brazil in 1832 where he emigrated) and "Apontamentos para a biografia do cidadão José da Silva Passos.", (Porto, 1848).
He was a Knight of the Order of Nossa Senhora da Conceição.
He died in Porto on 8 Janeiro 1863.
