Father João José de Vasconcelos was born in Ponte de Lima in 1801. He was the brother of José Maria de Vasconcelos, a lawyer in Lisbon.
João José de Vasconcelos was the abbot of S. Pedro, Coimbra, chief chaplain of the "expedition" of the Duke of Terceira to the Algarve, abbot of Gondar, in the Archbishropcy of Braga, and Ombudsman of Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto.
He was substitute teacher at the Polytechnic Academy of Porto between 1839 and 1847, the year of his dismissal by decree of 17 November. He bequeathed 130 volumes to the library of the Academy and died in 1884.
