Physicist, chemist and university teacher, 1st Portuguese pupil of Madame Curie

Biography of Manuel Marques Teixeira (1889-1967)

He was one of the first graduates in Physics and Chemistry by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, where he taught Physics, Optics, Physical Mechanics and Electronics.
He was the 1st Portuguese person to train at the Radium Institute in Paris with Madame Curie.
He directed the Geophysics Institute of the Faculty of Sciences.
A republican, he participated in the February 1927 uprising and was forced into exile to Angola. Arrested in 1947, at the same time as Ruy Luís Gomes, he was suspended, tried and acquitted. In 1952, he was reinstated.
