Abstract (EN):
The use of bender elements in the determination of the small strain shear stiffness (GO) of soils in such apparatus as triaxial cells and oedometers is becoming more frequent. The interpretation of results obtained using this dynamic method creates difficulties. One parameter that is believed to influence the wave propagation in soil is the sample geometry. It becomes clear that the understanding of this influence is necessary for a valid interpretation of results. Different samples with different geometries were studied using numerical models where a simulation of bender elements transmitting and receiving a pulse signal was used to produce data from which the travel time of the propagated wave was determined. Prior to this, the numerical models were calibrated with a real sample and its dynamic results.
