Apresentação Pessoal

Lígia Maria Ribeiro is Principal Researcher at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto since 2002. She is also coordinator of the Digital University unit of the Center of Competence in Cyber Security and Privacy at the Rectory and an integrated member of the Center for Studies of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto.

She was pro-rector at the University of Porto between 2006 and 2014, being responsible for ICT. She was vice-president of the Institute for Common Resources and Initiatives of the same University between 2003 and 2006 and director of the Computer Centre of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto between 1997 and 2002.

Lígia Maria Ribeiro received her degree in Applied Mathematics in 1977 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto and holds a PhD in Engineering Science from the University of Minho

She lectured at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto between 1978 and 1988, being Assistant Professor within the group of Applied Mathematics. In 1988 she started to work at the Faculty of Engineering of the same University as a researcher. 

She was President of EUNIS, the European University Information Systems Organization, between 2004 and 2006, after being vice-president for two years. She is presently member of the EUNIS Board of Directors. She was also member of the Technical Committee of TERENA, the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association, between 2009 and 2011.
Since 2009, she is a member of The Leadership Board for CIO’s, formed by The Chronicle of Higher Education and Dr. Michael Zastrocky.

On February 2013 she was appointed by CRUP, the Portuguese Council of Rectors, as representative to the General Board of the Portuguese NREN.

Since 1997 she is a professional member of ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery.

Her main research areas of interest are Computer Simulation, High Performance Computing, Information Systems, Electronic Administration and Informal Learning Spaces.

Lígia Maria Ribeiro was co-responsible for the development of the Information System of the University of Porto (SIGARRA) and was its principal coordinator for eighteen years. She was the creator of the e-learning café concept at the University of Porto.
