José Manuel Martins Ferreira concluded in 1992 his PhD degree in digital systems design and test, with an emphasis in boundary-scan testing. He supervised various MSc and PhD thesis in this same area. He was approved by unanimity in his agregação (habilitation) in 2000. His lecturing interests are centred in digital electronics design and test. He has lectured these topics in Bachelor, Master and Doctor programmes, both at FEUP and in foreign institutions. He was vice-president for academic affairs at FEUP from 2010 to 2013. He is vice-rector of the University of Porto since 27 June 2014, where he is responsible for information management, educational technologies, quality and continuous improvement.
