Abstract (EN): With the dawn of the Portuguese revolution on the 25th of April 1974 came the end of 48 years of dictatorship in addition to a repressive apparatus that affected the media in several deep-reaching ways. Both the end of tyranny and Portuguese jubilation manifested in the streets drew the attention of many international journalists, and thus Portugal made the headlines in media all over the world. Nevertheless this joy of freedom soon gave way to ongoing instability and subsequent moments of conflict and even repression, as the main political players gained an inevitable space in the national and world headlines, for different reasons. After the first explosions of collective happiness, all kinds of rifts emerged: labor, social, ideological and institutional. The streets turned into a stage for demonstrations and confrontations as a result of the conflicts that became the dominant note within every sector of Portuguese society, right down to the ranks of the very protagonists who staged the military coup
