Paulo Gusmão Guedes has a degree in History. He was a secondary school teacher, mainly in adult education, before joining the University of Porto in 1990, where he was editor of the university’s magazine on science and higher education politics, started the book publishing services and the central communication office. He was the coordinator of the University’s annual exhibit on education, science and innovation since its beginning in 2002 until its 14th edition, in 2016. He was also responsible for several exhibitions, mainly based on the university’s museum collections. In 2007, he joined the organizing committee of the project Junior University, which he left in 2016.
Between November 2016 and February 2020 he was executive director of the Hall of Biodiversity, an unit of the Museum of Natural History and Science of the University of Porto, located at the former Andresen House (Botanical Garden of Porto), open to the public since the 30th of June 2017.
He currently integrates the team of the Department of Culture of the Rectorate of the University of Porto. His main interests in the academic area are the history of science and the promotion of culture in its many facets (scientific, literary, artistic...).
