Objectives

The objective of the discipline is to improve the student’s capacity to apply clinical procedures, as well as to develop clinical thinking and its application in real situations. The work with real cases in ambulatory clinics allows the development of clinical skills as well as communication skills.

Learning outcomes and competences


The student get to know diagnose, treat and prevent the major diseases affecting livestock species in Portugal. Should acquire even throughout the year the ability to relate the etiological factors of various pathologies individual and group in order to advise the producer to prevent and control or solve problems, seeking solutions to provide better cost benefit. The student should also strengthen and consolidate the knowledge aquiridos áreeas in public health and animal welfare.

CATTLE: Pathology related to feed, lameness, precision animal production. SMALL RUMINANTS: Lameness, pathology of the digestive system, metabolic diseases, pathology of the mammary gland and factors that affect the quality of milk, pathology of the respiratory system, dermatology. EQUINES: Lameness, pathology of the digestive system, pathology of the respiratory system.

Evaluation by final exam.
The exam will have a theoretical part (10 values) and a pratical component (7 values), plus 2 values to the field work evaluation.  Serpa visit has 1 value of classification. Both parts are eleminatory
