Objectives
Introduction to the field of Psycho-Oncology.
Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of the course students should:
- Know the scope of the intervention in psycho-oncology.
- Know the spectrum of distress in psycho-oncology.
- Understand the impact of the disease and it's treatments on patients and their families
- Identify the main theories and psychological interventions in oncology.
- Acquire basic knowledge on psychopharmacological strategies and organicity in oncology.
- Aquire basic notions on Psycho-Oncology and Palliative care.
- Develop basic communication skills in oncology.

- History and concept of Psycho-Oncology, hospital context, multidisciplinary team, humanization, health care organization and policies relevant to psycho-oncology.
- Distress continuum and cancer.
- Patient experience with cancer over the course of illness and major treatments.
- Patient experience with cancer in different sites and with specific symptoms resulting from disease or treatments.
- Quality of life and survivorship.
- Psychological approaches in the continuum of distress. Theories and interventions.
- Cancer and family.
- Psychotropic and organicity in cancer patients.
- Psychological interventions in palliative care and grief.
- Communication in oncology.
