Teaching methods and learning activities

There are 2 hours - Primer at the beginning of the semester with 1 hour in each of the first two weeks of classes) and 30 hours of classes during the semester (in 2 hour units per class), with a total of 32 hours per semester.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching / learning methodologies will depend on the existing epidemiological situation and we can have one of the 3 scenarios:

A. Face-to-face - classes will take place in the usual manner

B. Blended format for contact hours:

. Theoretical classes will be held with presence of some students or totally remotely via Zoom in a synchronous way.

. TP classes will be held with presence of some students or totally remotely via Zoom in a synchronous way with discussion of clinical cases.

. Practical classes: the groups will be divided into two parts, half should have contact with the real patient and the other half with the virtual patient or perform another activity indicated by the teacher, alternating the following week.

C. Distance learning - this model will only be applied if the conditions for semi-face-to-face teaching are impossible due to pandemic and will be done entirely with the use of virtual patients and digital platforms.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation with final exam

Assessment Components

Designation Weight (%)
Exame 60,00
Participação presencial 40,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

Designation Time (hours)
Estudo autónomo 49,00
Frequência das aulas 32,00
Total: 81,00

Eligibility for exams

A minimum of 75% attendance is required for the theoretical and theoretical-practical lessons. An absence rate of over 25% implies failure to pass the course. An attendance rate of 100% is mandatory for the practical classes.

Calculation formula of final grade

The evaluation is constituted by two components: the written final evaluation (worth 70% of the total) and the continuous evaluation (worth 30% of the total), a portion of which pertains to class attendance (worth 10% of the total).

The final classification grade is expressed on a scale of 0-20 points, rounded off to the decimal, with a minimum necessary grade of 9,5 points for passage (a point grade inferior to 9,5 implies course failure).

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

The final evaluation will be written (valued at 70%), considering the previous continuous evaluation at 30%.

Classification improvement

The possibility to improve the point grade classification is by oral exam.

RULES REGARDING EVALUATION

In the event of legal constraints regarding classes due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the final written evaluation of the cited course will correspond to the total of the final grade, without consideration of class attendance and continuous evaluation.
