Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical - exposure and discussion of the syllabus. Practical - elaboration of clinical cases by the students from real patients of the consultations, presentation and its discussion; participation in multidisciplinary consultations.

Theorico-practical - presentation and discussion by the students, as a seminar, of a suggested oncologic theme. The acquisition of knowledge will be complemented by the systematic consultation of scientific literature, encouraging the students to conduct research, aiming to gather support contents to the study and to knowledge based.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching / learning methodologies will depend on the existing epidemiological situation and we can have one of the 3 scenarios:

A. Face-to-face - classes will take place in the usual manner

B. Blended format for contact hours:

. Theoretical classes will be held with presence of some students or totally remotely via Zoom in a synchronous way.

. TP classes will be held with presence of some students or totally remotely via Zoom in a synchronous way with discussion of clinical cases.

. Practical classes: the groups will be divided into two parts, half should have contact with the real patient and the other half with the virtual patient or perform another activity indicated by the teacher, alternating the following week.

C. Distance learning - this model will only be applied if the conditions for semi-face-to-face teaching are impossible due to pandemic and will be done entirely with the use of virtual patients and digital platforms.

Eligibility for exams

In accordance with the legislation in force.

The student obtains frequency if he/she reaches, at least and necessarily, a classification of 10 values in both evaluations.

Calculation formula of final grade

Continuous assessment, through attendance and participation in theoretical classes, in practical classes and in the various activities of the Medical Oncology Service; of the quality of the presentation of a seminar in theoretical-practical classes - 30% of the final grade.

Practical evaluation, through the elaboration of a clinical history of a specific patient, followed by its discussion with two assistants, focusing on prevention, screening, diagnosis, staging, notions about treatment, follow-up and palliative care, inherent to the patient's malignant disease in appreciation - 70% of the final grade.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

The special evaluation will be constituted by an oral exam done by the regent of the curricular unit and one assistant, with a duration of 30 minutes.

Classification improvement

The improve of classification will be constituted by an oral exam done by the regent of the curricular unit and one assistant, with a duration of 30 minutes.
