To provide students with an understanding of systematic pathology including etiology and pathogenesis of the diseases of companion and farm animals, as well as some exotic and wild animals, as they relate to veterinary practice. A basic understanding of histopathology and gross pathology of various organs and tissues of respiratory, urinary, nervous, bones, muscles, genital and lymphoid systems. To demonstrate how identification of pathological changes relate to the diagnosis and prognosis of disease. Importance of neoplasic diseases and the most important and relevant aspects to clinical practitioner. Importance and interpretation of histopathological reports.
Perform a necropsy; Identify macroscopic lesions and build list of differential diagnosis; Collect and send pathological samples to other diagnostic laboratories; interpret the results from complementary diagnosis tests. Understand the etiopathogeny and recognize the lesions, both macroscopic and microscopic, of the diseases of respiratory, urinary, nervous, bone and muscles, reproductive and lymphoid systems of domestic and exotic and wild animals.
The course will consist on the study of the respiratory, urinary, nervous, bones, muscles, genital and lymphoid systems . Practical classes consists on necropsies.
Theoretical lectures. Practical classes (necropsies with respective written reports and histological examinations of the most relevant cases observed at the necropsy room - optional).

It is necessary to approve the practical examinations to perform the theoretical exam. Practical examinations will occur in the last 2 weeks of classes, always during the practical lessons. The practical examination has a special evaluation system on order to favor a collaborative work and study among the students.
1) Written theoretical exam - 50% 2) Practical exam (continuous assessment + oral exam) - 50%
Students with special needs should contact the Teacher timely, in order to materialize their registration to practical examinations.
It is possible to improve each of the parts of classification in a separate way.
The theoretical examination can only be performed after approving practical examination. Practical exams will occur in the latest weeks of classes, always during the practical lessons.
