Objectives

Post-mortem changes: identification, assessment and interpretation.
Necropsy technique with sample selection, collection and sending to histopathology laboratory.
Description of macroscopic lesions.
Understand the etiopathogenesis, recognize the gross and histological changes inherent to pathological processes involving the alimentary system, liver, pancreas and salivary glands, peritoneum, skin and cardiovascular system, of domestic and farm animals.

Learning outcomes and competences

Identify, evaluate and interpret cadaveric changes; Perform a necropsy, select, collect and send pathological samples to histopathological laboratory; write a complete necropsy report; Identify and describe macroscopic lesions and draw up a list of differential diagnosis; Understand the etiopathogeny and recognize the lesions, both macroscopic and microscopic, of pathological processes involving the alimentary system, liver, pancreas and salivary glands, peritoneum, skin and cardiovascular system, of domestic and farm animals.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical lectures (Main subjects of course will be presented and discussed with help of iconographic material). Practical lectures (Necropsies with respective writen reports; description of gross pathological changes; selection and collection of samples for histopathological examination; histological pictures of the most relevant cases observed at the necropsy room will be available).

Eligibility for exams

It is necessary to attend to, at least, 75% of the practical classes to perform the theoretical exam.
Practical examination will be held during practical classes.
It is necessary to aprove to the practical component to have access the theoretical exam.
The classification obtained in the practical examination is valid for the following academic year.
Students who attended at the course in previous years and are not currently enrolled in practical classes should contact the Professor of the Curricular Unit as early as possible in order to complete their enrollment for the practical exam.

Theoretical-practical examination- 10%
Practical examination - 30%
Continuous evaluation -10%

Students with special needs or in special conditions should contact timely the Teacher in order to solve all these situations.

Observations

The theoretical examination can only be performed after approving practical examination.
