1. To rationalize living systems in terms of basic Chemistry principles. To present Biological Chemistry as a mere subset of Chemistry.
2. To correlate knowledge from Organic and Inorganic Chemistry with Biological Chemistry.
3. To aquire specific knowledge about biological molecules and and cellular chemistry organization.
1. Knowledge of the biologically important carbon compounds reactions and their mechanisms. Basic organic chemistry problem solving.
2. Structural knowledge of the most important types of biological molecules.
3. Understanding of the importance of molecular recognition, intermolecular interaction and the hydrophobic effect in biological chemistry.

Final mark (F), available options:
Option 1: Exame divided in assessments A3 and A4. F = ( A3 + A4 ) / 2. Both A3 and A4 include a non-exclusive theoretical-practical part worth 2/20 points. A minimum mark of 9.5/20 in F AND a minimum of 7.0/20 in A3 are the two necessary conditions to obtain approval. The students that do not achieve at least 7,0/20 points in A3 have to use Option 2.
Option 2: Exam E2. F = E2. The exam E2 has three parts: part P1, corresponding to A3 and quoted to 9/20 points, part P2, corresponding to A4 and quoted to 9/20 points, and part TP, theoretical-practical and quoted to 2/20 points. To obtain approval F = P1+ P2 + TP has to be greater than or equal to 9.5 points AND part P1 has to be equal to or greater than 3.5/20 points.
