Objectives
Oncology is the field of Medicine that deals with the prevention, screening and the diagnosis, staging, treatment and follow-up of patients with cancer and its complications, including palliative and supportive care. The student should demonstrates the following skills and abilities: a) Understands the natural history, biology and genetics of cancer, as well as the principles of its treatment; b) Acquires the ability to prevent, diagnose and staging cancer; c) Acquires notions on the treatment of principal malignancies, as well as the importance of a multidisciplinary approach; d) Learns to evaluate and control the side effects of various treatments; e) Acquires notions about acting throughout the evolution of different tumors, as well as in individual, family, social and professional contexts, including in these the capacity to communicate adequately with patients and their families; f) Learns to outline, conducting and interpret clinical studies.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Theoretical - exposure and discussion of the syllabus. Practical - elaboration of clinical cases by the students from real patients of the consultations, presentation and its discussion; participation in multidisciplinary consultations.
Theorico-practical - presentation and discussion by the students, as a seminar, of a suggested oncologic theme. The acquisition of knowledge will be complemented by the systematic consultation of scientific literature, encouraging the students to conduct research, aiming to gather support contents to the study and to knowledge based.

Eligibility for exams
In accordance with the legislation in force.
The student obtains frequency if he/she reaches, at least and necessarily, a classification of 10 values in both evaluations.
Calculation formula of final grade
Continuous assessment, through attendance and participation in theoretical classes, in practical classes and in the various activities of the Medical Oncology Service; of the quality of the presentation of a seminar in theoretical-practical classes - 30% of the final grade.
Practical evaluation, through the elaboration of a clinical history of a specific patient, followed by its discussion with two assistants, focusing on prevention, screening, diagnosis, staging, notions about treatment, follow-up and palliative care, inherent to the patient's malignant disease in appreciation - 70% of the final grade.
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
The special evaluation will be constituted by an oral exam done by the regent of the curricular unit and one assistant, with a duration of 30 minutes.

The improve of classification will be constituted by an oral exam done by the regent of the curricular unit and one assistant, with a duration of 30 minutes.
