Objectives
This is the last subject of Human Anatomy that is offered to the medical students in this Institute. The main goal is to revisit the gross morphology of the human body from a topographical point of view, and also to apply the anatomical knowledge that has been previously acquired by the medical students to a number of new problems in clinical medicine and surgery. Examples of routine imagiology of the human body that are employed in clinical medicine are used to illustrate the need of anatomical knowledge to solve questions presented by patients in clinical medicine.
Program
All of Human Anatomy is recalled, now stressing the topographic relationships between anatomical elements of the human body. Basic understanding of Human Anatomy has already been acquired by the students in the three previous anatomical subjects of the medical curriculum (Systematic Anatomy I and II, and Neuroanatomy). Clinical Anatomy will revisit now the whole structure of the human body with the aim of offering to the students a solid transition between basic and clinical sciences in what regards the underatanding and application knowledge on the detailed morphology of the human body.
Main Bibliography
The textbook recommended is the following:
Moore's Essential Clinical Anatomy.
Complementary Bibliography
Other textbooks and atlas of Human Anatomy are useful to review basic concepts in anatomy.
Teaching methods and learning activities
Lectures are offered to all students together and twice a week, small groups of students will attend weekly laboratory classes. The students are in charge of preparing reviews of specific themes in clinical anatomy to be presented and discussed during the laboratory classes.
Software
No specific software is recommended.
Evaluation Type
Distributed evaluation with final exam
Eligibility for exams
Mandatory attendance of laboratory classes according to the rules of the university of Porto.
Calculation formula of final grade
Classification of the written exam and of the oral evaluation.
Examinations or Special Assignments
Short written tests that are performed during laboratory classes. Preparation and presentation of themes of clinical anatomy by the students.
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
Only done when required by the directive or pedagogic bodies of the Institute.
Classification improvement
By repetition of the written exam followed by oral evaluation.
