Alberto Teodorico Correia holds two Bachelor’s degrees [(Aquatic Environmental Sciences, ICBAS-UP, 1997) and Biology, FCUP, 2003], a PhD in Aquatic Environmental Sciences (ICBAS-UP, 2004), and the title of Habilitation in Aquatic Environmental Sciences – Biology and Ecology (ICBAS-UP, 2022). He is currently an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Porto. He has also served as a Professor at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences of the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (2023–2024) and at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Fernando Pessoa University (2005–2023).

He is an integrated researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR), leading the Fish Biology and Fisheries Team, currently hosted at the ICBAS Ichthyology Laboratory, of which he is the director. He is currently a member of the board of the Iberian Society of Ichthyology, having previously served as its Vice-President, and has been President of the European Ichthyology Society.

He has over 20 years of teaching experience, including two years in primary (upper cycle) and secondary education. He has extensive experience teaching undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral courses. He has been part of several self-assessment committees for study programs as part of submissions to A3ES. He served on the Coordinating Committee of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Fernando Pessoa University, coordinating the Master’s in Specialized Laboratory Analyses, in the Food and Environmental Analysis track.

He has 121 peer-reviewed international scientific articles (three of which are editorials), 3 book chapters, and 1 published book. He has presented 158 oral and poster communications at various national and international conferences, including 42 invited oral presentations. He has participated as a reviewer for international, national, and regional projects. He has been a regular member, including co-coordinator, of the evaluation panel for doctoral scholarships in Biological Sciences from FCT.

He regularly participates in organizing international conferences, including serving as President of the Organizing Committee (e.g., ECI 2015, SIEBM 2016, and SIBIC 2022), and is frequently invited to join the Scientific Committees of various scientific events. He was a Special Visiting Researcher (PVE) at the Federal University of Paraná under the Science Without Borders Program.

To date, he has supervised or co-supervised 19 PhD students (15 completed), 38 master’s students (37 completed), and 22 undergraduates (all completed), primarily through experimental research leading to publications. He has supervised 5 postdoctoral researchers. He regularly participates in national and international projects, including as PI and Co-PI. He has coordinated several science outreach and dissemination projects under Ciência Viva and recently received funding for a Pedagogical Innovation project.

He is an Associate Editor of three international peer-reviewed journals. He is a regular member of academic juries and a certified lead researcher for animal experimentation with aquatic organisms, responsible for the ICBAS-UP Organism Bioterium. He holds a local recreational boating license.

He is listed in the Top 2% World Scientists 2024 (an international recognition by Stanford University and Elsevier), published in September 2025, recognizing the most cited researchers in the world up to 2024.
