Evidence Synthesis Studies

Objectives

Scientific literature review techniques are an essential resource for evidence-based medical practice. These techniques allow clinicians to address specific clinical questions through the systematic search and summarization of relevant scientific evidence in a rapid, practical, and effective manner. Moreover, in the context of academic development, mastering scientific literature review techniques enables students to enhance their autonomous bibliographic research skills, which are crucial for academic success.
Therefore, this course unit will equip students with skills that will distinguish them, both in the short and long term, in academic and/or clinical activities.
This course will cover methodological aspects related to the execution of different types of reviews and the quantitative and qualitative/descriptive synthesis of results, including the identification and quality assessment of studies, as well as data extraction.
By the end of the course, students should be able to critically appraise review articles and conduct research of this nature.
