The OneHealth Master aims to provide excellent training in One Health. The Master's will develop and deepen, in an integrative way, the knowledge and skills acquired in the 1st cycle, providing the development of original applications focused on activities carried out in research environments of excellence and strong interdisciplinarity that materialise the concept of One Health. This context will allow problems to be tackled in new situations, which will provide added value for students and society, giving them the opportunity to respond to emerging health challenges. On the other hand, it will develop students' critical thinking and create a strong sense of social and ethical responsibility, fundamental values for exercising active, supportive and committed citizenship. It will also promote the ability to communicate and debate ideas, both in specialist environments and with non-specialist audiences.
Partner Institutions: The Programme is jointly organised by two faculties of the University of Porto (ICBAS and FEP), research institutes rated as excellent or very good by the FCT (CECA, cef.up, CI-IPOP, CIIMAR, EPIUnit, inBIO, i3S, REQUIMTE and UMIB) and two leading hospitals (CHUPorto and IPO-Porto). In this way, synergies were created between the areas of health and the economy, opening up new perspectives for strengthening One Health, which contributes greatly to a sustainable economy.
Objectives
Students will develop competences at the interface of animal health and human health based on the vital influence of environmental health, without forgetting the economic and social sustainability of health systems. Students are also expected to acquire skills in ethics, global analysis, research, and the ability to communicate and debate ideas in both specialist and non-specialist environments.
To ensure personalised training, each student will have a tutor who, together with the course's Scientific Committee, will prepare the syllabus integrating optional curricular units from the University of Porto, so as to cover knowledge in the three interfaces of the course. In this way, multidisciplinarity and individualised training paths emerge as an asset for future professionals to be able to respond to current and future emerging health challenges in a changing world.
With this holistic approach, the One Health Master aims to train professionals to work in an integrated way in various fields, including academia and science, governmental and non-governmental organisations, as well as companies linked to human, animal and environmental health, both nationally and internationally.
