Master Degree in Marine Sciences - Marine Resources

InformationCourse/CS accredited by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES).
The Master's in Marine Sciences - Marine Resources (MCMRM) is a multidisciplinary programme that trains professionals for advanced teaching and research in marine sciences, as well as for the management, use, and enhancement of marine resources. Students specialise in Marine Biology and Ecology or Aquaculture and Fisheries. The programme emphasises the importance of preserving marine and coastal environments and the sustainable exploitation of marine resources. It also promotes the development of professional and personal skills, emphasising communication, initiative, and creativity. The MCMRM is taught in collaboration with prestigious public and private institutions in the field, such as CIIMAR, CIBIO, IPMA, and ELA. Students will have opportunities for study visits, internships, and dissertations in companies and institutions related to the sea and its resources.

Partner institutions: To guarantee a high level of diversity and quality in the training offered, the Master's Degree has been provided jointly since its inception by ICBAS and IPMA (formerly IPIMAR, the Institute for Fisheries and Sea Research), with the permanent and close participation of CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Centre for Marine and Environmental Research) and ELA (Aguda Coastal Station). There are partnerships with COMPANIES, promoting internships (via Free Options) and the realisation of dissertations and annual internships in a professional environment.

Objectives

The key objective is to provide a high-quality, flexible multidisciplinary programme that enables students to acquire the knowledge, skills and competences to actively and competently contribute to research in marine sciences and the management, use and enhancement of ocean and coastal resources, specialising in Marine Biology and Ecology or Aquaculture and Fisheries. The MCMRM is geared towards the study of living beings in the ocean and coastal zones - seeing them as entities integrated into complex, dynamic and fragile environments that need to be preserved - and marine resources in general, whose sustainable exploitation is difficult and requires qualified human resources. The MCMRM aims to train professionals capable of carrying out scientific research in the public or private sector and intervening in the sustainable management, exploitation and valorisation of ocean and coastal resources. Transversal skills (instrumental, interpersonal, systemic) are also promoted.
