The undergraduate Veterinary Medicine course of ICBAS has five years of formal teaching and nine months of a training period. Part of the professionalizing teaching, such as zootechny and clinics of big animals takes place in Vairão Agrarian Complex. This degree aims to graduate technicians in veterinary activities such as clinics, public health, animal production and thecnological processing, inspection and sanitary support to the different animal production activities, quality control and environmental and sanitary control, teaching and research. The programme of the degree has the following specific aims:

• To promote health care and animal wellbeing
• To manage and develop animal production systems
• To prevent, to make diagnosis and to control zoonosis and enzootic diseases
• To assure the quality of food obtained from animal sources
• To contribute to environmental protection
• To promote and develop science research activities
