Objectives
Understand the functional, biochemical and morphological changes (macroscopic and histological) inherent to the development of pathological processes. Pathophysiology is a discipline that establishes bridges between basic and clinical sciences, exploring the mechanisms of disease development and progression that involve the different organs/systems of the organism. Understand the biosphere changes as an homeostatic rupture mechanism.
Learning outcomes and competences
Understand the etiopathogenesis of the various pathological processes. Recognize the functional, biochemical, anatomical and histological changes inherent to the development of the disease.
Working method
Presencial
Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)
It is recommended that students have knowledge of Histology.
Program
Introduction to pathophysiology. Cell injury and death. Cell proliferation and differentiation. Cell regulation and adaptation. Abnormal development and malformations. Mineral and pigment deposits. Inflammation. Repair. Cell regeneration. Fibrosis and healing. Circulatory changes, thrombosis and shock. Immunopathology. Carcinogenesis and neoplasia. Biosphere changes in a pathologic perspective.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Theoretical classes (presentation of the subject using images). Practical classes (visit to the Laboratory of Veterinary Pathology at ICBAS-UP; observation of macroscopic images and histological preparations related to the different pathological processes covered in the program).

Eligibility for exams
Attendance to at least 75% of the practical classes taught is required in order to be able to attend the course.
Calculation formula of final grade
Practical test - 50%
Theoretical exam - 50%
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
Students with special conditions must contact the regents in a timely manner.
Observations
Nine and half points (9,5) are needed in each of the exams in order to obtain final approval.
