Objectives

To provide students with an understanding of systematic pathology including etiology and pathogenesis of the diseases of domestic and farm animals, as well as some exotic animals, as they relate to veterinary practice. A basic understanding of histopathology and gross pathology of pathological processes involving the alimentary system, liver, pancreas and salivary glands, peritoneum, skin and cardiovascular system. Post-mortem changes: identification, assessment and interpretation. Necropsy technique with sample selection, collection and sending to histopathology laboratory. Description of macroscopic lesions.

Learning outcomes and competences

Identify, evaluate and interpret cadaveric changes; Perform a necropsy, select, collect and send pathological samples to histopathological laboratory; write a complete necropsy report; Identify and describe macroscopic lesions and draw up a list of differential diagnosis; Understand the etiopathogeny and recognize the lesions, both macroscopic and microscopic, of pathological processes involving the alimentary system, liver, pancreas and salivary glands, peritoneum, skin and cardiovascular system.

Calculation formula of final grade

Written theoretical exam - 50%

Practical exam:
- description of macroscopic lesions - 20%
- necropsy (including necropsy reports and continuous evaluation in practical classes -30%

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Students with special needs should contact timely the Teacher in order to solve all these situations.
