Objectives

The student should recognize the normal morphology and physiology of the human body and the mechanisms that threaten its homeostasis. She should learn the main clinical syndromes, how to choose the best diagnostic tests and to propose the adequate treatment. The student should recognize the value of the multidisciplinary approach and the limits of his individual action, always guided by the absolute respect for human life. The choice of a specialization will be the next step and it will represent a phase of the professional life where one can accumulate detailed knowledge that will enrich the multidisciplinary way of treating patients. It is demanded that the student be acquainted with this model and actively participate during the learning process.

Learning outcomes and competences

The learning methodology is composed of 3 nuclear components. 1- Theoretical knowledge pertaining all the clinical modules contents, taught in a coherent and logical framework. 2- Practical discussion of clinical cases with emphasis on the multiorganic manifestations of diseases; the student will have the opportunity to use the knowledge acquired in each module. 3- Bedside learning of clinical skills, searching for objective and subjective elements from the patient that will later drive the discussion of diagnostic testing.

The evaluation will be focused on three skills: theoretical knowledge, intellectual elaboration abilities centered on a complex clinical reasoning, and clinical skills to collect objective and subjective signals directly from the patient. At the end of the semester, the student should be able to care the patient since the first clinical observation to the final therapeutic proposal. She should always bear in mind the absolute need for team working to accomplish a true multidisciplinary approach. In parallel, the student will have to integrate that knowledge with the cultural and emotional environment inherent to the patient condition.
