Objectives
After sucessfully completion of the course, the students will be able to make the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of the most important parasitic diseases that afect the prodution animals and pets with special attencion to zoonoses.
For that we have two big aereas: Prodution animals ( rabbits, birds, swines, equines, bovines, sheep and goats) an Pets (dogs, cats, and exotics).For each of those animals each parasitic disease will be treated considering : etiology, life-cycle, epidemiology, pathogenesis and clinical signs, lesions post-mortem, diagnosis, treatment control and prevention.
For the sucessfull solution of the diferents problems we always use the elements that we relate before and join them with the diferent prodution sistems, welfare animal, environment, farmacology alternatives and economic factors.
Program
Introdution: Facts that must be considered during lectures and praical labs.
RABBITS-Ectoparasitosis: Fleas- Spilopsyllus. Mites- Notoedres, Sarcoptes, Psoroptes, Corioptes, Demodex, Helmintosis: Nematodes- Passalurus, Trichostrongylus, Graphidium, Nematodirus, Obeliscoides, Trichuris, Capillaria. Cestodes-Hymenolepis, Cysticercus, Coenurus, Raillietina, Protozoa- Eimeria.
BIRDS- Ectoparasitosis: Ticks- Argas. Mites- Dermanyssus, Knemidocoptes. Fleas- Ceratophyllus, Echidnophaga, Helmintosis: Nematodes - Heterakis, Ascaridia, Capillaria, Syngamus, Tetrameres. Cestodes- Davainea, Raillietina. Protozoa- Histomonas, Trichomonas, Eimerias.
SWINE-Ectoparasitosis: Mites- Sarcoptes, Fleas- Pulex ,Lice- Haematopinus. Helmintosis: Nematodes- Ascaris, Strongyloides, Trichinella, Trichuris, Oesophagostomum, Trichostrongylus, Hyostrongylus, Stephanurus, Metastrongylus. Cestodes-Cysticercus, Hydatid cist, Trematodes- Eurytrema, Fasciola, Protozoa-Eimeria, Isospora.
EQUINES- Ectoparasitosis: Ticks-Ixodes, Boophilus, Haemaphysalis, Hyalomma, Dermacentor, Rhipicephalus, Amblyomma. Flies- Musca, Stomoxys, Tabanus, Gasterophilus. Mites-Sarcoptes, Psoroptes, Chorioptes. Lice- Damalinia, Haematopinus. Helmintosis: Nematodes-Parascaris, Draschia, Strongyloides, Strongylus, Habronemas, Trichostrongylus, Oxyuris, Dictyocaulus, Parafilaria, Trichonemas, Onchocerca, Thelazia, Cestodes- Anoplocephala, Cysticercus, Hydatid cyst.Tremotodes-Fasciola, Dicrocoelium. Protozoa- Babesia, Trypanossoma, Eimeria.
BOVINES, SHEEPS and GOATS- Ectoparasitosis: Ticks- Ixodes, Boophilus, Haemaphysalis, Hyalomma, Dermacentor, Rhipicephalus, Amblyomma. Flies- Musca, Stomoxys, Tabanus, Hippobosca, Haematobia, Hypoderma, Melophagus. Mites- Sarcoptes, Psoroptes, Chorioptes. Lice- Damalinia, Haematopinus, Linognathus. Helmintosis. Nematodes- Toxocara, Haemonchus, Ostertagia, Cooperia, Nematodirus, Bunostomum, Trichostrongylus, Trichuris, Oesophagostomum, Chabertia, Stephanurus, Dictyocaulus. DOGS and CATS - Ectoparasitosis: Ticks- Rhipicephalus, Dermacentor, Boophilus. Mites- Sarcoptes, Notoedres, Otodectes, Demodex.Fleas- Ctenocephalides, Pulex. Lice- Linognathus. Helmintosis: Nematodes- Toxascaris, Toxocara, Strongyloides, Ancylostoma, Trichinella, Trichuris, Philasoptera, Ollulanus, Spirocerca, Dirofilaria, Aellurostrongylus. Cestodes-Dipylidium, Taenia, Echinococcus.Trematodes- Fasciola. Protozoa- Giardia, Entamoeba Hammondia, Sarcocystis, Besnoitia, Isospora, Toxoplasma, Hepatozoon, Leishmania, Trypanossoma, Babaseia, Ehrlichia, Cryptosporidium.
Teaching methods and learning activities
Lectures 2 hours each one for 15 weeks.
Pratical labs 3 hours each one for 15 weeks.
Pratical labs can be made in labs where are trained the diferents diagnostic technics or in our farm or some others farms that we visit were we colect samples and perform some parasitics treatments
