Objectives

General objectives:

1. Provide the student the idea that Imagiology is a set of means used to through the image, to clarify some aspects of the case in question. However, the diagnosis should be given to all aspects of the case.
2. Train the student in the analysis of the image, ie, requiring that the image is observed in a methodical and that is extracted from there all the information you can provide.
3. Develop in students the capacity for reasoning about the rapid differential diagnosis to consider, depending on the signals observed.
4. Empower the student in recognition of the key radiographic signs, ultrasound, endoscopy of the main causes.
5. Develop in students the capacity for reasoning about the rapid differential diagnosis to consider, depending on the signals observed.

Specific objectives:


1. Knowing the basics of imaging techniques and their application to clinical diagnosis;

2. Create the student capacity, before the clinical diagnosis; decide which or what the image means to reach the diagnosis.
3. Expose the students in practical classes, the techniques, attitudes and practical application of theoretical concepts on the normal appearance and semiological of X-rays and ultrasound in small animal and livestock species (especially horses). It is the practical component that the student make the automatic recognition of the radiologic anatomy and can quickly, including the radiographic signs in general symptoms, establish a differential diagnosis.
4. Have the student learns the different signs of the various means of image related etiologies studied;
5. Promoting the integration of knowledge of the means of imaging in the pre-existing knowledge of the various disorders seized in other disciplines of medicine or surgery.
6. Create the student capacity, before the clinical diagnosis; decide which or what the image means to reach the diagnosis.
7. Expose the students in practical classes, the techniques, attitudes and practical application of theoretical concepts learned in lectures on radiographic interpretation. It is the practical component that the student make the automatic recognition of the radiologic anatomy and can quickly, including the radiographic signs in general symptoms, establish a differential diagnosis.

Introduction: types of radiation, X-ray bulb, X-ray apparatus, X-ray beam, gratings, radiographic film, radiographic cassettes, intensifier screens, identification of film, revealing manual, automatic and digital, biological effects of RX, means of contrast, the principles of ultrasound, and interpreting artifacts, computerized axial tomography, type of aircraft TAC, articles, scintigraphy (principles and applications), magnetic resonance imaging, endoscopy (flexible and rigid endoscope)

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical- Systematization of the analysis, description and interpretation of diagnostic techniques for image.
Practical - Implementation and subsequent interpretation of the art of diagnosis by imaging performed, presentation of clinical cases with diagnosis by imaging small animals and horses.

The practical training takes place at ICBAS in small animals clinical unit at Campus Agrário de Vairão, in the large animals clinical unit.
