Luísa Lobato is senior nephrologist at the Department of Nephrology, Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Santo António, Unidade Local de Saúde de Santo António (ULS de Santo António/ULSSA).

She obtained the MD degree at the Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (ICBAS), University of Porto, Portugal, and got her PhD degree from ICBAS with research involving ATTR kidney amyloidosis.
Luísa Lobato concluded the specialization in Nephrology at Hospital de Santo António, Porto. She coordinates, since 1994, the nephrology outpaient clinic at ULS de Santo António dedicated to hereditary amyloidosis, the Corino de Andrade Unit. She had the direction of the Hospital Department of Education, Training and Research since 2013 until 2023, including its Clinical Trials Unit.
In 2022, she was nominated for the interim direction of the Department of Nephrology, and in 2023 assumed that position.
Member of Scientific Committee of the Portuguese Society of Nephrology since 2015, she assumed the Presidency of this Commitee in 2022.
Luísa Lobato is Full Invited Professor of Nephrology at ICBAS and academic coordinator of the international mobility programmes in Medicine. She was Member of the Representatives Council of ICBAS between 2014 and 2022.

She is Vice-coordinator of the Unit for Multidisciplinary Research in Biomedicine/ ICBAS and investigator/clinical researcher from the group Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation from the same Research Unit. Since 2021, she integrates the Associate Laboratory ITR - Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health, University of Porto.

Research area: hereditary amyloidosis, especially the forms associated to transthyretin (ATTR) and fibrinogen (AFib), its epidemiology, genotypic-phenotypic correlations, renal pathology and effects of anti-amyloid therapy on ATTR kidney disease.
