Paulo Martins da Costa, Assistant Professor (since 2006) with Aggregation (2020) at ICBAS of University of Porto, is graduated in veterinary medicine (1994 at FMV/UTL) and holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS/UPorto). He teaches in the areas of food technology and food safety.

He is member of CIIMAR - Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR/UPorto), and he is also responsible for the laboratory of Microbiology and Food Technology of the Aquatic Production Department.

His main research interests focus on the transfer of multidrug-resistant bacteria between intermingled ecological niches (humans, animals and environment) and on the antibacterial screening of extracts and pure compounds obtained from diverse origins. He has relevant expertise in clinical and food microbiology and has been involved in several research projects focused on food safety and on the discovery of new antibiotics. Paulo Martins da Costa is co-author of 56 scientific papers published in international journals with referees.
