Centre for Developmental and Educational Child Psychology

  • Centro de Psicologia do Desenvolvimento e Educação da Criança

Acronym: CPDEC
Person in Charge: Marina Lemos
Description: This centre is an unit of research projects, services and academic support in the area of Educational and Developmental Psychology, created in 1985.

The research and direct service activities either in psychological counselling or psycho-educational and early intervention are focused mainly in the age-groups from birth to adolescence. Human development is considered as a process whereby the individual progressively assumes an active role in constant interaction with others, in the different settings where he/she participates, from the mother-newborn dyad to schooling in a broad sense. The approach is thus developmental and ecological.
The research and intervention projects directed to preschool and school aged children with special educational needs stay in the interplay between Developmental and Educational Psychology.
Family and/or school programs (educationally or else oriented interventions) are also developed, targeted not only to children and their families but also to institutions and communities.
