It is expected that the student is able to:
. develop the required personal and relational resources to successfully adapt to the context of the internship and establish teamwork with several professionals;
. apply the knowledge and skills acquired in academia in the context of the internship;
. respond in a competent, flexible and creative way to demands and obstacles that could result from the specific contexts of work, progressively developing autonomy;
. develop a reasoned discussion, which involves articulation between the practice and the knowledge acquired during the master’s degree, about the potential and limitations of different modes of intervention for human development;
. act in strict compliance with the deontological code, recognizing the social and the ethical implications of actions.
The internships take place in multiple settings with established protocols of collaboration, and are organizedaccording to the various areas and subareas of the Master in Psychology. Given the broad range of professional contexts of host entities, internships involve multiple fields, methods and strategies of assessment/intervention, as well as targets.
In addition to an onsite advisor whose function is to closely monitor the activities of the trainee, there are supervisors who are teachers from FPCEUP and who meet regularly with the interns.
Supervisors are also responsible for mediating between the faculty and the host organizations.This mediation is assisted by the FPCEUP's Professional Integration and Alumni Support Unit (UAIPA), which is responsible for archiving documents related to internships and curating the SIGARRA website with internship support resources: https://s.up.pt/1jv
At the end of the first week of internship, and in the course of meetings conducted with the advisor, the trainee shall submit to the supervisor a plan of activities to be carried out during the school year.
Initially interns spend some time participating by observation and progressively they become more autonomous in their actions. Their practices are continuously reflected, either in the context of the relationship with the advisor, or of relationship with the supervisor.

The evaluation is distributed throughout the year. In addition to information obtained from regular contacts between supervisors and trainees, two meetings may be held (one at the end of each semester) with the various advisors, where advisors have the opportunity comment on the performance and development of the trainees. Advisors are asked to fill out an individual record according to a set of criteria.
At the end of the year the student should deliver a report, presenting and discussing the activities of the internship, and reflecting on the internship experience. This work should be grounded in the articulation between scientific theory and practice.
