Objectives
At the end of this curricular unit, students should be able to:
1. Identify, recognize and critically reflect on the political, axiological, ethical and deontological dimensions of Psychology, as a science and as a profession, with special emphasis on professional practices in Psychology.
2. Differentiate between ethics and deontology, as regulatory dimensions of professional practices in Psychology, taking, as a reference, structures (principles) and processes (norms/rules).
3. Integrate the structuring elements of the ethical and deontological dimensions of the professional culture of psychologists.
4. Understand and critically appreciate normative documents of the psychologist profession, namely deontological, general and sectorial codes, and quality standards of professional practice.
5. Mobilize ethical principles and values and deontological rules and norms in specific situations and contexts of the professional exercise of the role of the
psychologist.
Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of this UC students should be able to:
1. Identify, recognize and critically reflect on the political, axiological, ethical and deontological dimensions of psychology, as a science and profession, with emphasis on the professional practices of psychology.
2. Differentiate ethics and deontology as regulatory dimensions of professional practices in Psychology.
3. Integrate the structuring elements of the ethical and deontological dimensions of the professional culture of psychologists, considering structures (principles) and processes (norms/rules).
4. Understand and critically appreciate normative documents of the psychologist profession, namely the Deontological Code of Portuguese Psychologists, identifying, from it, standards of quality of practice professional.
5. Mobilize ethical principles and values and deontological rules and norms in specific situations and contexts of the professional exercise of the psychologist's role.

Philosophical and psychological framework of the ethical dimension of human action; clarification of the concepts of "ethics" and "deontology" in academic and professional contexts; characterization of the psychologist profession.
2. Professional development of psychologists: recovery of the models of Perry, Cooper and Lewis (ethical and epistemological development) and of Kohlberg (development of moral reasoning); nature of psychologists' ethical and axiological commitments and conflicts of interest; ethics, professional deontology, culture and politics in psychological intervention and research.
3. Selection of problem groups and population groups especially relevant for a reflective learning about ethical and deontologically competent professional practice.
4. Ethical and deontological implications of the organization of the psychologist profession and the regulation of its access and exercise.
5. Presentation and discussion of ethical-deontological problems/dilemmas arising from the professional practice of Psicology.

We will seek to involve students in the construction and implementation of a personal learning project that focuses on a relevant topic of the course program (based on suggestions provided by the professors responsible for each module), with a view to exploring and deepening it.

The final classification will be the average of the scores obtained in each of the three mini-essays corresponding to the modules that make up the discipline.
