Objectives
- Critically to analyze the current trends of public policies in the area of health and illness, reflecting and analyzing institutional responses and building an inclusive citizenship;
- To question the conceptions of health and illness and educational and social responses, considering cultural and social diversity in a historic perspective;
- To identify the principles and values of empowerment and its implications to health intervention, giving special to mental illness questions;
- To recognize the potential of community intervention in health sphere and to know projects in this field;
- To be able to design community intervention projects in health field, taking into account an empowerment perspective.
Learning outcomes and competences
It aims to promote knowledge and skills on the concepts of citizenship and empowerment and their implications for the design of interventions in the health area, especially in the field of community health.
It is also intended to develop skills for analysis and critical reflection on public policies in the area of health and disease, as well as current intervention devices.
Finally, it is hoped to promote design skills for community health intervention projects, in a perspective of empowerment.

Eligibility for exams
The students must have the minimum of 9.5 points in 20 at final evaluation.
The presence in class is mandatory according to the regulation in force in FPCEUP.
Calculation formula of final grade
The final grade is obtained through the formula:
- 40% for presentation and discussion of projects (papers) about intervention in mental health, which allow reflecting critically and grounded the contents of the UC.
- 60% final exam.

The discipline uses Moodle platform.
This master is teach with the collaboration of ESTSP-IPP; some of the bibliography can be found at this school.
Considering the operational recommendations for maintaining teaching and non-teaching activities in person, but in the impossibility of guaranteeing the presence of all the teaching activities of the 1st semester of 2020/2021 in the current pandemic context, due to the lack of physical facilities capable of accommodating with the number of students in this cycle of studies is secure, the component [T] of this UC will partially take place at a distance, with synchronous moments, using telematic support material.
