This course goals aims to:
- acquire and develop knowledge and skills related to methodologies of health education;
- explore health education instruments and strategies;
- provide conditions to reflect critically on health promotion potentials and risks in formal, non-formal and informal education contexts.
In terms of learning outcomes, it is expected that this course will allow:
- to think and operate on health education strategies;
- to adapt health promotion messages and initiatives to different audiences/groups and in different contexts;
- to work in multidisciplinary teams different topics of health education;
- to critically analyze projects and / or education initiatives for health, taking into account its effects from the social, education, cultural, economic, etc. points of view.Syllabus:
The health education intervention as a co constructed field;
Agents and contexts of health education;
The design of health education strategies as forms of community participation.Contact hours: Exhibition, discussion, group dynamics and mentoring work.
Autonomous work: literature search, writing and ground work.
The teaching methods include three main dimensions: the literature revision on health education projects / initiatives; the presentation and the debate on its specificities; and critical analysis of its strengths and weaknesses.
Throughout the semester students are invited to collect health education projects / initiatives registering their critical notes, based on the reading and analysis thereof, in a diary. At the end of the semester it is expected that students select a health education project / initiative to present the group discussing its strengths and weaknesses. This health education project / initiative should also be explored from a theoretical point of view in written record in the form of final work.
The evaluation components include: quality of presence/attendance component (30%), presentation of health education project / initiatives (30%) and diary and final report / reflection (40%).
