Objectives

The curriculum domain Planning, Supervision and Assessment in Education – PSAE -is framed by national and international challenges towards the promotion of the development of societies and assurance of educational principles of equity and social justice. It assumes a perspective that combines macro, meso, and micro levels of analysis and intervention in education. Aiming to train for educational management, and decision-making, coordination and cooperation  in the fields of assessment, supervision and educational planning, it focus on the assessment of learning, institutions and educational systems, and on teacher education policies and practices. This curriculum unit organizes in dialogue with local, national and international research and around the identification of core paradigms and theories, critical analysis of policies, projects and programs, and design of research projects and intervention.

Learning outcomes and competences

1. To recognize opportunities and threats in international policies on educational development (ED)

 

2. To identify and to relate bodies, consortia and programs in ED

 

3. To describe international criteria for assessing the quality of educational systems

 

4. To critically analyse policies and practices for evaluating educational institutions (IEA) and educational systems (ASE); and of training, supervision and evaluation of teachers (FSAP).

 

5. To identify and to describe contributions of local, national and international research in the field of EIA, SEA and FSAFP

 

6. To describe key aspects of the state of education in the countries of origin of students and to identify respective lines of development

 

7. To construct and to write the dissertation or internship project

 

8 To design national and international relevant ED programs focusing in the areas of SFAP, EIA and SEA

 

9 To coordinate, to supervise, to research, to make decisions and to give advice on Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation of Education.

Teaching methods and learning activities

In both theoretical and practical sessions

Students will be divided by the different lecturers/supervisors depending on their interests.

 

The autonomous work includes

 

8. Research, reading, and systematized writing of documents, articles and monographs related to policies, practices and research in educational development  (focusing teacher education and supervision, and evaluation of educational institutions and systems), and preparation of their presentation in the sessions

9. Writing the dissertation/internship project

 

The evaluation is “distribuída com exame final”, and includes the production of texts along the semester and the written and oral presentation and discussion of the dissertation / internship project
