Objectives

At the end of the frequency of this course, students must:
- Show knowledge about:
• the basic components of organizational structure, describe the impact of its main determinants and recognize the main characteristics of organizational settings;
• the functions of communication in organizations and identify the ingredients for effective communication;
• basic components and levels of analysis of organizational culture;
• the processes of decision making in organizations.
- Develop and demonstrate the following competencies in organizational psychology research:
• selection of the theme;
• literature review;
• writing of a scientific report according to the APA style and,
• oral presentation.

By the completion, with tutorial support, of a research work dealing one of the four topics covered in this curricular unit, it is intended that students build a knowledge up to date on thematic approached and develop research skills that enable them to design and develop a research project under the Organizational Psychology. It is intended that students develop appropriate skills for the selection of an interesting subject for study, review of literature, writing scientific report in accordance with the APA norms, and oral presentation.

Eligibility for exams

Classes are subject to verification of attendance.
Safeguarding the special cases covered in the law, students who miss more than 25% of the classes planned not get frequency at course unit (according to Regulation Assessment of students FPCEUP - Article 9, point 2.).

Calculation formula of final grade

The final grade results of the mark obtained in the following assessment components:
a) Final exam (50%) - test with multiple choice and short development questions and,
b) Work in small group (50%):
i) Assessment of student participation in the meetings of tutorial support (15%);
ii) Evaluation of oral presentations (15%);
iii) evaluation of written report (20%).

To obtain approval in the course unit, the student must:
1) obtain a final mark of 8 values ​​in each of the assessment components and,
2) obtain a final mark of 10 values ​​(according to section 2, paragraph 4 of Regulation Assessment of students FPCEUP).

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Students who by law are exempted from verification of the conditions of attendance to classes, should perform the two assessment components previously defined: small group work and final exam. For this, they have to contact at the BEGINNING of the semester (NEVER after 2nd class) the teacher responsible for the course unit (Filomena Jordão).

Classification improvement

"Students can improve classification test performed once per course, one of the two final exam periods immediately subsequent to that they received approval and that the course has provided for examination." (Section 1, Art 11 of the "Regulation assessment of students FPCEUP").

Improving the final classification obtained in this course is possible by carrying out a further examination remaining valid assessment obtained within the "group work" and the weights assigned to the two assessment components considered in the final evaluation.
