Objectives
Citizenship and Diversity aims to confront students with issues related to citizenship, in its relationship with the state, communities, as well as in its relationship among individuals and in its articulation with civil, political, social and cultural rights. From then, it debates issues of inclusion/exclusion and socio-cultural diversity.
Aims
. to read and interpret social reality in its complexity;
. to debate concepts of citizenship, inclusion/exclusions and socio-cultural diversity;
. to acknowledge relevant contributions on such issues;
. to identify social processes and contexts that may produce exclusion and inclusion.
Competences
. critical analysis of socio-educational devices and contexts on equality and diversity;
. development of research on contexts of formal and non formal education.
Learning Outcomes
. critical analysis of written and visual texts and socio-educational problems regarding equality and diversity
. developing a theoretical framework on these issues for a research project (dissertation)

Eligibility for exams
The students must attend at least 75% of the sessions.
Calculation formula of final grade
The process is constituted as follows:
i. Participation in the tasks distributed in each session
ii. Writing a 3000 paper (references included) on a firm or novel concerning rights, citizenship, inclusion/exclusion, cultural diversity, with the following features:
Identification of a problematic (theoretical introduction/ literature review)
discussion of contributions from authors reviewed concerning with the problematic identified
reading the film or the novel thrrough these lenses
references
The final mark of the curricular unit is expressed in a 0-20 scale.
The implication of the students in the tasks will be evaluated with a maximum of 20%. The paper referred to will be evaluated with a maximum of 80% of the 0-20 scale.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
The students legally authorised to not attending the sessions will deliver, besides the essay referred to above, an review essay on a book from the readng list (to be arranged with the teacher)
Classification improvement
Those students whishing to improve their evaluation or those who could not meet the regular procedures can (re)write the paper or be submitted to an (oral) examination about it.
