Objectives
•To contribute to the reflective conceptualization of social practises, namely in the field of education, as management processes of social change;
•To contextualize the handling of the problematic of social change management within the scope of globalization processes in the Portuguese society;
Aimed competences
•To analyse projects on education while instruments of social change;
•To identify in texts on social work in education, and in the practises of that work, the political assumptions that support them while development projects.
Program
This unit approaches to anthropological and sociological theories of development and culture, emphasizing the issues concerning the development and development concepts and its reconfiguration in the globalization context, as the scope of the problematics of social change management and globalization processes in Portuguese society.

2. Tradition and modernity: problems and dilemmas of modernization
3. Consequences of modernity
4. Debate on post-modernity

Considering that the aim of assessment is to give indications on the degree of accomplishment of the final goals; to evidence which knowledge proposed by the program is more relevant and to be itself a learning device, this unit’s assessment assumes the form of a synthesis with the following characteristics:
-accomplishment time: 3 hours;
-scope: the themes will respect the learned issues;
-accomplishment conditions: individual work with consultation
Calculation formula of final grade
Final exam - 80%.
Oral presentation - 20%.

Presentation of a text in a group work.
